A mew nood, a new mood.

February 28, 2012

I find that, for the time-being at least, I don’t really feel like talking about my art or recoding my processes, I just want to

DO it. I’ve started a different project on Tumblr, which is simply one piece of art posted daily, with very few words.

I hope you’ll follow me over there.

(Fridgedoor Fresh Daily)

Hey what happened to Sunday?  I know it was Karnival, but surely that didn’t take all day!  Anyway, another week and a bit has gone by, and I have very little visual output to share. I’m so busy with different projects at the moment that actually creating photos or paining seems to be on the back burner. Thats fine as I’m using my creativity a lot, but it feels like a bit of a slump, not having anything to show at the end of the day. I suspect daily posting is the way to go, and I wondering what I think ‘successful’ blogging would be like, what I want to get out of it and what I’m prepared to put in! I’m not sure if I am still holding on to the idea of using a blog as a record of my work, as finished series are all on the homepage and now the Flickr page holds all the photos worth showing. I don’t know how networking and making art fit together really, maybe that’s something to ponder.

February 12, 2012

Well, my Flickr profile is up to date, will my favourite images from the past 9 years in place. Its a nice photo album for me, if nothing else. You can check it out here.  Apart from this its been an extremely productive week with very little to show for it, at least visually. I need to do some spray painting to finish a new major work, but the warmest its been is -7 so not conducive so spraying at the moment. I have got a potential new model for a shoot, but the biceps need to be perfected first if only I had such goals on the horizon of possibility!  Otherwise, I just need to blunder onwards and commence some new projects. I think I’ll revamp the kid’s book I illustrated and put it into BLURB, you never know, someone might like it.  I guess I could expand the whole work and show it to more publishers, but I think I am satisfied with my simple little idea and would rather leave it as it is and move on to other things. A very reputable children’s books publisher told me, quite kindly, that the idea wasn’t interesting enough to warrant publication and the set out was too boring. Fair enough, I know J.K. Rowling was rejected 29 times or something like that, but I don’t want to either flog a dead horse or make poor first impressions. I have learnt a lot since I did those drawings 4 or 5 years ago.

immer wieder Sontag!

February 5, 2012

So, its Sunday once again!  Not a huge amount of visual output this week, even though I’ve been working extremely diligently on visual projects. Above is an addition to my DDZ series, which is what I am going to base my Notebook Project notebook on, a kind of biography through significant people in cartoon form, a graphic Desert Island Discs if you will!  I rather like this DDZ series, but cannot for the life of me remember why I called it DDZ, the Z is possibly meant to be an S, but the DD? Absolutely no clue whatsoever.

My Flickr project is coming along slowly, the arrival of my professional camera certainly brought about an enormous increase in the number of photos I took, so the images to sort through, and now chosen, to process and resize, is large. Hopefully I’ll get 2010 online in the next few days.

So, thats about it for this week, not much to show for myself but a lot done!

A new regime!

January 29, 2012

I’ve been so busy with other things that the FridgeDoor has been a little neglected of late, so I think I’ll set myself the task of updating each Sunday with an account of exactly what I’ve done during the previous week, art wise that is. So far in 2012 I’m yet to press the shutter on my camera, but that will have to change in the next 2 days as I need to produce the next decade portrait for January 2012.  I have been busy creating my Flickr portfolio, lots of things need to be tweeked, processed and re-sized, but the trip down memory lane plus the discipline of editing has been valuable. I’m now up to 2010, and the work load is increasing.  I’ve just sent out a call to see if I can recruit any willing models and maybe get some shooting in soon, it would be positive to see some new work around. In the meantime, a journalist is going to run some information about me and my work in conjunction with the launch of the school brochure featuring ‘On the theme of time’ on the cover. A nice little blip of excitement there.  But everything else seems to be either on the ‘to do’ list or the ‘just around the corner’ list, so nothing more to report this week except to wonder at my apparent obsession with ducks. I seem to have snapped every duck I’ve ever walked past, and I don’t even care about ducks – really.

How very dare you!

January 24, 2012

SO, not everyone seems to have my high opinion of my art!!   Here are the remains of my art school advertising poster, which has been ripped off the advertising bollard on the corner, shredded and distributed along half the street. Charming. Meanwhile, I’ve been paddling frantically under the surface, sorting lots of photos and trying to get some kind of graphic arts portfolio together, hopefully coming to a postcard rack near you soon (but not shredded on a street near you with any luck!).

January 13, 2012

I’ve really been enjoying sorting through 1000s of photos and editing down a selection for Flickr, here are three that I’ve fallen in love with from 2006.  I’m trying not to include things that are just beautiful or cliched postcard shots, as much as love having these and the memories associated, I can’t see much point in adding them to my galleries when they can be found anywhere. Otherwise, I think I’m creating a nice record of how life has been flowing and I hope some recognizable progression in my creative development!

Now it’s Friday the 13th, haven’t done anything spooky or endured any bad luck as yet. I guess there are still a few hours left…

More consolidating my attempts to rule the world today!  Had a very interesting afternoon at the huge art supply warehouse,  which is always inspiring, there is so much you could do creatively. Really get pulled towards some form of sculpture / 3D when I see the huge chunks of wood, granite and marble there. One of these days when there is cash to spare.

In the meantime,  I’m sorting out photos and I think I’ll build up a Flickr profile, because there are often very nice photos I take that don’t fit into my main themes but are worth showing and might be useful for something. Its no doubt useful to take the time to process them and think about them a bit more.  Also looking at Whitewall, my gallery there is up and running, but I’m not sure if my eye is in sync with what they want to use in their own public sales room.  Will keep going though, and looking forward to taking some new photos for this year soon.

January 9, 2012

I’m moving most of my blogging here to WordPress. This Fridgedoor blog is a record, mostly visual, of my creative output and other ideas that spring to mind.  You can check out earlier works at somethingforthefridgedoor. Sometimes I may want to publish life drawings or other material deemed not for a general audience (apparently!) and will publish these elsewhere. If only I found some charcoal lines on a piece of paper as erotically charged as some, but nevertheless, lets call this nice blog, and see how long it takes for naughty blog to rear its nasty head!
